Empowering Women and Girls Together
Our Roots
In 2010, a group of Professor Ayot’s former students took her up on offer to visit her home of Rusinga Island and later initiated the Operation My People secondary scholarship program (OMP). It began at Kamasengre Mixed Secondary School as a way to help ensure the opportunity of a quality education for young girls in the community who wouldn’t otherwise have the resources or support to attend secondary school.
Since its founding in memory of Rev. Carleton Peterson, Soul Source Foundation has championed the empowerment and education of women and girls in western Kenya—particularly around Lake Victoria and Rusinga Island. Inspired by the original Sole Source, LLC mission, our grassroots programs provide micro‑lending, spiritual retreats, and leadership training, all designed to foster lasting community change.
In 2010, the Operation My People (OMP) scholarship launched at Kamasengre Mixed Secondary School to ensure bright young women could complete high school. Each year since, OMP has supported 40 students, and more than 60 graduates have gone on to higher education—four of whom have already earned college degrees or diplomas with our ongoing sponsorship.
With a focused board and deep local partnerships, Soul Source continues to invest in trainers, expand scholarship opportunities, and nurture the next generation of Kenyan leaders—one empowered woman at a time.
